Approach

The overall workplan of the project is as follows. After basic research and data collection the first step of the project is to investigate the ship dynamics during the incidents. This gives us the accelerations of the cargo which in the next step is the input for the laboratory experiments. These experiments help to identify the critical combinations of the three aspects mentioned before and how to avoid them by cargo testing or ship design. Another output of the laboratory experiments is a material law that will be used for the numerical modelling of the ore cargo in the vessel. This model can be used for more detailed investigation of the behaviour after liquefaction occurred and shall allow to make recommendations for counter measurements and cargo hold design.
